Try It
Sit and breathe. Straighten your spine and open
your palms gently, allowing the pointer fingertip
and thumb tip to rest together. Relax and gently
roll your eyes up to the midpoint between and
just above your eyebrows. Welcome to your yoga
practice! In Kundalini Yoga, we always start with
the “Adi Mantra” three or more times…
Ong Namo Guroo Dayv Namo
I bow to the subtle divine, I call on the
teacher within.
A Bij Mantra is a seed mantra; the seed of sound
is planted in the subconscious and practitioner
watches it grow. The seed contains all of the
knowledge of the full tree in its condensed form;
it is the identity of truth contained. Try chanting
in a monotone voice for three or more minutes.
Some examples are:
Sat Nam, widely
used and often translated as “Truth is my
identity”. It awakens the souls and balances
the five elements as it gives you your destiny.
Wahe Guru is known
as the Gurmantra, and it triggers the destiny.
It expresses the infinity and ecstasy of dwelling
in god and is often translated as “I am
in ecstasy when I experience the Indescribable
Wisdom” or “Wow! God is great!”
Har is the sound
of the creative infinity, one of the aspects of
G-d. It will move you through blocks.
An Ashtang Mantra has eight beats, and the rhythm
of the Kundalini and its movement responds to
this beat.
Ek Ong Kar Sat Nam Siri Wahe Guru is the
call of the soul as it corresponds to the body’s
8 centers. These are the code sounds to connect
you, the creature, with your creator. It is very
powerful for awakening the Kundalini energy and
suspending the mind in bliss as it creates a responsive
relationship between you and universal creative
energy.
Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So
Hung is known as the “Siri Gaitri
Mantra” and attunes the self with the universe.
It is a mantra for healing, it brings balance,
and it combines the earth and ether elements as
the Kundalini flows through the central channel
of the spine.
Some other favorite mantras
for anytime you might want to connect in.
Gobinday Mukunday Udaaray
Apaaray Hariung Kariung Nirnaamay Akaamay
eliminates karmic blocks and errors from the past
as it purifies the magnetic field, brings compassion
and patience, and facilitates easier relaxation
and meditation. It also helps to cleanse the subconscious
mind and balance the hemispheres of the brain.
Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Jio.
From Aquarian Sadhana (the morning practice),
singing to the soul.
Humee Hum Brahm Hum.
We are we, we are G-d
Aadays Tisai Aadays Aad
Aneel Anaad Anaahat Jug-jug Ayko Vays
This is also taken from the morning prayers.
There are many different ways to apply these mantras
while sitting in meditation, walking down the
street, or commuting to work. To learn more about
these techniques and to insure proper pronunciation,

At the end of your practice: “The Long Time
Sun Song”:
May the long time sun
shine upon you, all love surround you
And the pure light within you, guide your way
on.
Sat Nam
We are an organic symphony composed of rhythmic
systems. The breath, the pulse, and the gentle
throb of the cerebrospinal fluid constitute some
of the rhythms of the body. These pulsations can
be affected by the practice of yoga, most notably
through the process of mantra meditation, accomplished
through the stimulation of the hypothalamus and
other brain centers.
The hypothalamus is connected to the pituitary
gland, which is the master gland of the body;
it has an intimate relationship with the functioning
and secretion of the thyroid, the adrenals, and
the reproductive glands. The hypothalamus regulates
vital functions in the body, triggering the urge
to eat, drink, digest, sleep, sex, and feel. It
affects the mood, and our mood often creates the
atmosphere for action. Every action and thought
we have has a vast series of reactions attached
to it. One powerful way to release negative programming
and thought forms is to connect into the orchestral
atmosphere of your body through sound, or mantra.
Sound is a form of energy. Energy is composed
of different frequencies which vibrate at different
speeds. Some vibrations are lighter or higher
than others. Mantras are coded sound vibrations
that can change our frequency. ³Man² means mind
and ³tra² is the heat of life, the tapa of transcendence.
By using mantra it is possible to transcend the
limitations of the mind. When we feel heavy and
chant a high frequency, we mind that our mood
lifts to meet the frequency of that which we project.
The mantras we use in Kundalini Yoga have a predictable
and definite affect on the chakras and the human
psyche. They bring us into a state of focused
awareness, invoking the powers contained in the
syllables we vibrate. We can change our level
of consciousness by changing the chemistry of
the brain. We become what we vibrate, so vibrate
the Naad and become your highest self!
